At Charlotte Bobby Lutz will be entering his 10th season as Head Coach having guided the 49ers to five NCAA tournament bids during his tenure. Lutz and his squad experienced a losing season last year for only the second time and he’s feeling the pressure. Only one starter returns but Charlotte's incoming recruiting class is the best in school history, look for growing pains with nine new faces this year.

The Guards -- Senior Leemire Goldwire is the only returning starter, he's an athletic player with a solid all-around game. Look for sophomore Ian Andersen to contribute at the other slot; coming off the bench for the 49ers will be Charles Dewhurst who redshirted last season, Michael Gerrity, a Pepperdine transfer who becomes eligible in December and freshman Javarris Barnett, a herald the outside shooter.

The Forwards -- Charlotte will need major contributions from the forward slots this season if they hope to be competitive in the A-10. Incoming freshmen An’Juan Wilderness and Gaby Ngoundjo will be given substantial playing time this season. Look for the 49ers to utilize a three guard offense often this season.

The Center -- Phil Jones who was academically ineligible last season will be counted on heavily for the 49ers in the middle this season. Jones has the ability to catch the ball around the basket and score, Jones possesses the size and skill to be a force in the A-10 immediately.

This season will be a baptism by fire for the young Charlotte squad, as the Schedule is quite simply, brutal. Road games at Hofstra, Tulsa and Clemson; home dates with Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Davidson, Southern Illinois and Maryland and for fun let's throw in three games at the Paradise Jam. This will be a long season for coach Lutz’s 49ers squad, look for improvement as the season progresses but Charlotte will end the season with but 10 victories.
