Sean Miller enters his fourth season as Head Coach for the Musketeers; last season brought 25 victories but the season ended with a gut wrenching loss to Ohio State in the NCAA tournament. Xavier returns three starters with all conference talent, great depth and will be the team to beat in the A-10 this season.
The Guards –At the point, 5-7 senior Drew Lavender was second-team all A-10, he led the conference in assists with a 4.8 a game and hit 45% of his three point shot attempts. Fellow senior 6-3 Stanley Burrell averaged 12.4 ppg last season and together with Lavender gives the Musketeers easily the best backcourt in the A-10. Xavier brought in Dante Jackson, a 6-5 freshman guard who was at 2,000 points scorer in high school.
The Forwards –Manning one the forwards spot will be one of the league's most gifted frontcourt players, senior 6-9 Josh Duncan, who can score inside or out having hit 112 career three-pointers. The Musketeers also have sophomore 6-7 Derek Brown, a future star with eye-popping jumping ability. 6-6 Junior C.J. Anderson is a transfer from Manhattan who averaged 18.8 ppg as a sophomore, depth will also be provided by 6-6 junior B.J. Raymond who averaged 4.1 ppg and 2.1 rpg last season.
The Center -- In the middle Xavier has a pair of 6-9 players, JC transfer Charles Bronson and returning sophomore Jason Love.
The Musketeers will face a less than challenging non-conference>Schedule this season with home games against Cincinnati, Kansas State and Virginia, and they will also travel to Auburn this season. Look for Xavier to be motivated to improve on last season’s success and to be the class of the A-10. They'll make a run in the NCAA tournament and in the season with 29 wins.
