Head Coach - Pat Hill loves his Cali boys, especially the ones from the “Valley” but will this hurt him when he plays the tougher teams. Hill must replace All WAC D-End Tyler Clutts and Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Riley; this will not be an easy task. One thing is for certain going into this season for the Bulldogs and that is they will not be National Champs in football, unlike in baseball. With 8 starters returning on offense, Fresno will score a lot of points with Tom Brandstater at QB. The defense on the other hand needs to reload.

Quarterback - Tom Brandstater leads the way for the Bulldogs and he looks to continue the success he had last year. But with a new OC expect some changes to be made to the offense, hopefully the changes make the offense even better. Brandstater has the talent and could have an All-WAC year.

Running Backs - There are two running backs that will be vying for the starting spot, Ryan Mathews and Lonyae Miller. More than likely both of these backs will be used in the offense, the best way to describe these backs are thunder (Miller) and lightning (Mathews).

Receivers - Fresno returns there top two receivers in Ajirotutu and Moore. They also have great depth to work when they go to the 4 and 5 wide attack. IF Moore and Brandstater can click again this season, expect big things.

Offensive Line - On the O-Line four starters are returning from last season, they’re a solid group that lead to much of the success that the Bulldogs achieved in 07’.. If Fresno State expects to win the WAC and have a chance to play in a BCS game it will be up to the men upfront to lead the way. Leporte and Avon are the tackles and these guys will be the key to having a great offense.

Defensive Line- Jon Monga will be the anchor of the D-Line this year for Fresno. Monga is a proven player who will cause havoc for other teams; Ramos is also returns and was solid a year ago. The two new starters will need to step in and help create more one on one opportunity for either Monga or Ramos.

Linebackers - The linebacking corp is a solid group with Jacobs and Brown returning, these two will get the job done. Monga and Jacobs will be the key to the front seven of the Bulldog defense. Jacobs is a sure tackler and knows how to get to the ball, expect an All-WAC season from him this year.

Defensive Backs - The secondary group for Fresno is an enigma. They return starters Owens, Harris, and Haynes but these guys are up and down. Last year the unit only had 4 interceptions, and this was one of the bottoms 3 numbers in the WAC. For Fresno’s defense to be great the secondary must come together.

Schedule - If Fresno does go undefeated they deserve to be in a BCS Bowl maybe even the National Championship. With Rutgers, Wisconsin, Toledo, Boise, and Hawaii blocking there way it will be a humongous task. Fresno will win all of its WAC games until the showdown at Boise Nov.28. Fresno was the last team to beat Boise at Boise, so don’t count them out just yet. The Bulldogs can’t overcome the monster schedule but this will be a good team and look for Fresno to win 10+ games this season.
