2007's Most Improved Teams by Wins
There are different ways teams show immediate improvements in win-loss from one year to the next. The easiest way is to have the schedule fall into place. Some coaches always have the schedule to match their talent. Senior leadership, recruiting, and coaching are all ingredients that contribute to that quick turnaround. The following eight teams are the ones that we project to make the biggest strides in 2007.
New Mexico St 4 to 9 - The Schedule is very manageable, if they can win one of 3 road conf games they’ll be well on their way to a bowl game for the first time in 45 years. The drought is over the Aggies will get 9 wins.
Oklahoma St 7 to 11 - The Cowboys open at Georgia and a victory in Athens could be a springboard to a special season. A loss at Oklahoma will be the lone blemish to this BCS-Bowl-Bound team on their way to 11 victories.
Vanderbilt 4 to 8 - The pieces are in place and the schedule is manageable with 8 home games. With improved play on defense and special teams, Vandy gets their first bowl bid in 25 years on the way to 8 wins in 07.
Memphis 2 to 6 - The Tigers have a schedule to make a quick turnaround. Memphis will make progress in 07' and get to the .500 level; they'll finish the season with 6 victories.
Southern Miss 9 to 12 - An outstanding D, a dominating running game and senior leadership at quarterback are the ingredients for a special season. Look for 12 wins and long deserved recognition for head coach Jeff Bower.
Iowa 6 to 9 - If Christiansen produces at QB and the offensive line steps up Iowa could be very good. The defense will be fine and the schedule is helpful. Shake off last year; this team is top 4 in the league. Look for 9 wins and a bowl bid in 2007.
Toledo 5 to 8 - Unlike most MAC teams Toledo has seven home games; they will be in the hunt for the MAC championship this year. The Rockets will regain their focus and winning way leading to an 8 victory season.
